IT Support Technician Job Description

OVERVIEW
This position assists staff with technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology. Support includes specification, installation, and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Activities require interaction with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems. The position utilizes one-on-one consultancy to end users. The employee in this position also assists in the maintenance and testing of network servers and associated equipment. The position’s responsibilities require independent analyses, communication and problem solving. Work is performed with little supervision and requires initiative and judgment.
 
RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Assist staff with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software.
  • Work with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software.
  • Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers and administrative systems.
  • Assist with email, server, and Internet connectivity support.
  • Work with procurement staff to purchase hardware and software.
  • Assess functional needs to determine specifications for purchases.
  • Assist with optical backup systems.
  • Order computer supplies.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

    • 2+ years practical work experience supporting Windows XP & Windows 7 desktop/laptop PCs.
    • Must have work experience supporting Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Must have a working knowledge of networking technology and troubleshooting.
    • Experience troubleshooting hardware issues and replacing hardware on both desktop and laptop PCs.
    • Experience installing software, patches, updates on desktops, laptops, servers.
    • Experience troubleshooting network, software, and printing problems.
    • Web based development experience a plus. (ASP, ASP.NET, PHP)
    • Customer service experience a must.

Salary commensurate with experience - $40,000 to $60,000; benefits package; EOE
